THE POWER OF A WELL-DEFINED PROCESSVisual designers are creatures of process. We generally work in prescribed ways... discover, design, validate, repeat. In my experience, I have found that developing and documenting that entire process has been a good exercise to help educate new team members, executives, and development teams.
The Interactive Development Process
Thinking about my work process in a timeline, I was able to create the framework and toolsets for the interactive development process. This is a guide showing the steps and deliverables through the interactive project lifecycle. Maps various activities and deliverables against project roles and indicates major milestones. It has served as an excellent resource for educating clients (internal and external) about "the process" and what to expect at each phase of the cycle.

I was honored that Design Sessions: Notes on Design asked me to be a guest blogger on their site in June 2007 to talk about my interactive development process. Notes on Design is a curated blog bringing readers content that improves their design work, inspires them creatively, and informs them professionally. It is an insightful blog written by guest authors, designers and editors from the world of design and new media. Posts focus on the commercial application of graphic and web design. Their readers are an international audience of designers ranging from freelancers to Creative Directors. Here’s the post on Design Sessions.
