Undress & Ski

First posted in June 2007, this was the proposed signage for my sister’s lake cottage affectionately named “Undress & Ski” Cottage after their last name, Andreski. Much to my surprise, they’ve made it into a design on Adirondack chairs too!

Back to the Drawing Board

After several months, I’ve made it to phase 3 in building up vibrant color washes on the wood panel. Still have lots more left to do.

As Yellow as Gold

After months of neglect, I’ve finally finished my graphite and acrylic painting on a wood panel called “As Yellow as Gold”. Once dry, Copic markers were used to add subtle color detail. A thick coat of high gloss epoxy resin was was poured to bring out the golden tones.

Illustration Friday: Caution

Swimmer alone in a small wave throws caution to the wind.

Illustration Friday: Clandestine

One of my favorite paintings is Jacques-Louis David’s, Oath of the Horatii , 1784. The composition illustrates the story of three brothers swearing their allegiance to Rome, by taking a clandestine oath from their father to kill three of their cousins. The father in the middle acts as a bridge between the outside world and the world of the family, which is represented by the curvilinear shapes of the mourning women. Because of its depiction of dutiful patriotism, The Oath of the Horatii is often considered to be the clearest expression of Neoclassicism in painting. With acrylics, I’ve done my own color study of a small portion of the Oath of the Horatii painting.

Still untitled…

… a tiny bit more progress on the wood panel painting.

As Yet Untitled…

… a wood panel painting in progress.
